Screen Time
In the age of screen time, I can see my kids being less and less interested in books.
I find that quite sad - I personally love screens but also love books (and ebooks and audiobooks).
Recently I purchased this book about the Apollo Missions into Space & to the Moon from the 60s and 70s by Andy Saunders. Rudi (14 y/o) saw it sitting on the coffee table and at first he kinda looked at it curiously, almost like a cat sniffing on something new to eat. Then he sat down flicking through it for 2 hours.
The next morning: “Papa, is it OK if I bring the book to school? I want to show my friends”. It’s heavy, maybe 3kg - he carried it anyways. Then during a car ride on the weekend, he read aloud for all of us - the incredible story of Apollo 13 “Houston, we have a problem…”
It makes me really happy, I don’t think the same level of engagement with the content would be possible through a screen small or big.
I’ll continue buying books of all kinds.
